11.08.2014 Strike

My first time seeing this on the big screen was a mixed bag – the film is overwhelming while the score was hit and miss. When something is as busy and dense as this the music would be best to paint in broad strokes to counter it instead of trying to keep up, otherwise you just can’t get a hold of it. It is amazing that even after all this time there have never been much follow through on the promise of these early Eisenstein films – narrative films free of the protagonist and everything that comes with it.
