7.25.2015 Mad Max: Fury Road

This film alludes to a lot of political issues – gender equality, economic equality, religious terrorism, global warming – but it has nothing to say about them, as far as I could tell. Instead it uses these things as window dressing around its competently made action film, which sadly is getting far too much credit due to the shitty state of large budget films these days. There were things done well – some world building and the three way fight with the chain stand out. But if this film only wants to be judged by its car chases then why are all of those other things there? I am not looking for a “message”, but at least ideas. At best I get some kind of magical seed woman fern gully crap and I’m not even sure if that is giving the film too much credit sometimes.
