Overall this was pretty good. I could see some not liking the 80s stuff, but I thought it worked for the most part. The thing is it becomes a different film every 20 minutes and some of those are better than others. The first 2/3s are great, but it sags in what should be the crescendo. When it worked though the interplay of comedy, action, and drama was a feat. Great cast all around, but Shepard is just great, as usual. Another reason the ending left a sour taste in my mouth was that it seemed to imply that the main character was now a man thanks to his violent rampage. i hope that was not the intentions of the film maker. It’s examination of male identity filtered through genre reminded me in a way of Jeff Nichols work, but not nearly as complex of a view of masculinity.
