My first thoughts as I walked out of the theater were fuck this movie. It is a perfect example of his post-Jackie Brown work and how it drives me crazy. It is overlong, with at least 30-40 mins that could have been easily cut. It is mostly long speeches that feel like Tarantino talking, not his characters, and his own love for himself is so constantly evident that it almost always feels like the main subject of the films. Then it all culminates in what again he seems to think is a very insightful statement that just feels like the kind of nihilism we have been suffering through in the cinema for the last 15+ years. Fuck this movie. There are good moments, some nice acting, and good costumes, but it isn’t able to escape his smugness.
