It might be unfair to hold it against the film, but the opening credit saying the film was sponsored by Gucci made a complaint I think I would have had even worse. I was really looking forward to this film. On paper it seems like something I’d love. But for a movie that seems to posture itself as spiritual it felt empty, like it had no soul. The focus on surfaces and lack of narrative didn’t feel artistic, it felt like fake authenticity. All of the beautifully shot urban decay, all of the cultural signifiers, for what? Lots of vague shrugs in the direction of content. I feel like I am being harsh, I guess I just had high expectations.
